SOUTH LOS ANGELES, CA – Authorities in South Los Angeles have launched an urgent manhunt following a fatal shooting and subsequent carjacking that claimed the life of one man and left another wounded late Thursday night.
The violent incident unfolded on June 26, 2025, in the Florence-Firestone area. Law enforcement agencies responded to calls reporting the crime near the intersections of 91st Street and Compton Avenue and 92nd Street and Compton Avenue, specifically pinpointing the location as being outside a marijuana dispensary.
Details of the Initial Attack
According to preliminary information released by investigators, the confrontation began when two individuals in a black Ford Expedition were approached by two male suspects. The suspects, described as being in their 20s and wearing dark clothing, allegedly attempted to carjack the occupants of the Expedition.
A struggle reportedly ensued during the attempted robbery. In the course of this altercation, one of the suspects opened fire, shooting the victims. Tragically, a 27-year-old overnight security guard, whose identity has not yet been publicly released, was shot and killed at the scene of the crime. A second victim also sustained gunshot wounds but managed to flee the immediate area, running down the street before collapsing. This victim was later transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in critical but stable condition.
Suspects Flee in Stolen Vehicle
Investigators believe that immediately following the shooting, the suspects targeted another vehicle nearby. Two men who had stopped in the vicinity, apparently to render aid or assess the situation after the initial shots were fired, became the suspects’ next victims. These two men were reportedly not harmed by the suspects.
The suspects carjacked a silver or champagne colored Acura sedan belonging to the two men. They then used this stolen vehicle to make their escape. Authorities state that the suspects fled northbound on Compton Avenue in the stolen Acura.
Law Enforcement Response and Ongoing Manhunt
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Century Station and officers from the Los Angeles Police Department received calls reporting the violent incident and quickly converged on the area. They secured the crime scene and began their investigation, collecting evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.
The description of the suspects provided to law enforcement remains consistent: two males in their 20s, both wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack. The stolen Acura sedan remains at large, and law enforcement agencies are actively searching for both the vehicle and the suspects.
The community in the Florence-Firestone area has been left shaken by the sudden and deadly violence. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
Call for Public Assistance
Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in locating the suspects and the stolen vehicle. Anyone with information regarding the fatal shooting, the carjacking, the whereabouts of the suspects, or the silver or champagne colored Acura sedan is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau or the Los Angeles Police Department.
